My Story
Hello, my name is Cristina Gómez Villacastín and I’m a translator specialising in legal, financial and technical translation. I work in a job I enjoy; after all, my profession was love at first sight.
When I was 16, I used to help my father by typing up technical translations for the aeronautics company he worked for. It was at that time when several translators from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs came to my high school to talk about their work.
Their presentations captivated me and they advised me to combine languages with a degree focussed on an area of specialisation. So, I made a plan and followed it:
- I became proficient in three languages and obtained official certificates in each of them (English, French and Italian).
- I completed a law degree.
- I learned how to produce general and legal translations.
- I got a master’s degree in simultaneous and consecutive conference interpretation.
- I spent years living and working in the countries of my working languages (Ireland and Italy).
Since 1998, I’ve been working in my sector, primarily as a freelancer. However, I was employed in-house as a translator in Dublin (SDL International), and as a vendor and public tender manager for a translation agency in Madrid (CPSL).
For eight years, I was sole director of a family company operating in the aeronautics sector and was responsible for all its national and international communications, in addition to translating the technical manuals for the equipment marketed. I know about managing a company from the inside and have no fear of challenges.
I was a translation and interpretation teacher at the SSIT, Pisa, and at Estudio Sampere, Madrid. My CV at a glance.
